HOW TO PLAY
Free-A-Word is a twist on solitaire-type card games. Here is a quick summary on how to play:
Getting Started: First game is pre-selected for you, so you are ready to go! Difficulty level is set to easy. Tap on any card with an orange marker under a letter and you will soon figure out how to re-arrange the letters.
How to Win: Each puzzle has an answer word that contains between three and seven letters, and those letters are sprinkled throughout the puzzle on cards with a blue background. Tapping or clicking on an active blue card moves it from the puzzle and up to the answer. You win when all answer cards have been moved.
UNDERSTANDING CARD COLORS
The explanation of the card colors is as follows:
Blue: Answer card.
White: Card can be moved. The card can be moved to either an empty column, or to a non-empty column if the corresponding letters are stackable (e.g. 'B' can move to 'A', but 'A' can't move to 'B').
Gray: Card cannot yet be moved. You first need to free it up by moving the letters below it
GAME SETTINGS
Here are the game settings:
Show Stackable Cards: By default, this option is turned on, and will highlight (with a small orange underline) which cards can be stacked on top of other cards in the puzzle. If you want more of a challenge, you can turn this option off
Set Auto Stack: By default, this option is turned off. If turned on, then the game will automatically stack cards where possible, saving you the time and effort. f
Game Difficulty: This setting lets you choose the difficulty of the puzzle, ranging from easy to expert.
TIPS and TRICKS
Here are some suggestions that will help you win a game:
Empty Columns are Valuable Try and keep at least one column empty at all times. Often you can use it as a "holding spot" for a card as part of some other re-arrangement, but then the card moves out again. For example, let's say we have cards 'AIJB' on the bottom of a column, and an 'H' at the bottom of some other column. You can move the 'B' to the empty column, which allows you to move 'IJ' onto the 'H', and then you can move the 'B' back onto the 'A'. Letters are better sequenced now, and the empty column remains empty
Not all Moves are Equal You often will have the situation where two or more cards with the same letter can be moved. For example, there is a 'B' in column 1, another 'B' in column 2, and an 'A' in column 3. Either 'B' card could be moved. The trick here is to look at the cards that moving either 'B' opens up. You may find that moving one of the 'B' letters allows the letters above it to also move, whereas the other doesn't
Stacking letters is Always a Good Thing The more you can stack letters, the easier the puzzle becomes.
